The Future of Money;
Creating New Wealth, Work, and a Wiser World

By Bernard Lietaer

In June of 2002, Michele traveled to Croatia to attend The Alchemy of Peace Building conference put on by the Praxis Peace Institute in conjunction with the Institute of Noetic Sciences. One of their speakers was Belgian born Bernard Lietaer. Michele and Bernard made a strong energetic connection, and before we knew it we were arranging for a presentation by Bernard the following November in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We found him to be very connected to the earth, extremely knowledgable about global money systems, and a heart-centered visionary for alternative economic structures and sustainable abundance. His book is uplifting, and without the sometimes academic dryness of economists. The stories and principles are easy to take in, and the primer on how money works is eye-opening and in our opinion worth the cost of the book. We believe you will be uplifted and inspired about the potentials for community currencies.

From the book jacket:

The global money system no longer works in our best interests; we need a serious overhaul of money - and of our attitude towards it. Based on the four mega-trends of monetary instability, global greying (an ageing global population), the information revolution, and climate changne, Bernard Lietaer looks at different scenarios of what the world might be like in 2020.

THE CORPORATE MILLENIUM: governments are disbanded, central banks become irrelevent and the world is ren with Big Brother control by huge corporations with their own currencies.

CARING COMMUNITIES: after a monetary crash, people retreat into small, self-sustaining communities, like tribes.

HELL ON EARTH: in which the breakdown of life as we know it is followed by a highly individualistic free-for-al, resulting in an ever more obscene gulf between rich and poor.

SUSTAINABLE ABUNDANCE: envisages a world where we take better care of the environment, re-engage the poor and the unemployed in mainstream society and give back time and fulfillment to the over-worked, while providing the elderly with a high level of personal care.

A society of sustainable abundance is achievable - but only if we are willing to re-think our money system and use money innovations that have already proven effective somewhere in the world today.

Bernard Lietaer has spent 25 years working in different areas of the money system. He worked on the creation of the single European currency and was named the world's top currency trader by Business Wek in 1989. He was Professor of International Finance at the University of Louvain, Belgium, and a Fellow at the Cemter for Sustainable Resources at the University of California, Berkeley.

"Read this thoughtful, penetrating, readable book and you'll understand how profoundly present monetary systems and the people who control them affect your life." - Dee Hock, Founder and CEO Emeritus, VISA International

"The Future of Money really opened my eyes as to what money is about; and what its future is - and is not." Stephen Denning, Program Director, Knowledge Management World Bank

"I thoroughly disagree with it." - The Rt. Hon. John Redwood, MP

Random House would not publish this book in the U.S., and it is not available from the usual sources. We had a case shipped to us from Europe and have made them available since Bernard made his presentation in Minneapolis. If you enjoy the book, please let others know that we have them for sale.
